Egmond Plastic plays in the Beverkoog Soccer Tournament on May 23: Best result so far!

EP is competing in the Beverkoog Soccer Tournament: Best result yet!

(Report by one of the team members)

On Friday evening, May 23, we participated in the Beverkoog Soccer Tournament. With several colleagues cheering us on (thank you!), we achieved our best result yet: a fantastic 7th place! Before the tournament, we fueled up and boosted our team spirit with a group meal in the company cafeteria.

The first game took some time for us to get used to playing together. Despite a few good chances, it unfortunately ended in a tie. Coach RB also had some initial trouble with his substitution strategy, something our goalkeeper (better known as “the tall lanky guy”) clearly had strong opinions about. Fortunately, this was addressed right away, resulting in a convincing victory in the second game. Our top scorer scored two beautiful goals in that match, and one of the most experienced members of our production department provided an assist that his kids will be talking about for a while at home (though they’ll probably have laughed at him too, since he got hit right in the face with a ball during the first game).

After this high point, our form dipped slightly, and we failed to win the next two games. The third game ended in another tie, which meant we finished second in our group and could still finish no higher than fifth in the tournament.

The fourth game, against Young Sparks, was particularly entertaining. This opponent also had a number of women on their team, which visibly distracted some of our players. For example, our “technical” player let himself be easily beaten on the sideline, resulting in a clear path to the goal.

In the final match, EP made a strong comeback. The top scorer added another goal to his tally (though his bicycle kick was just a bit too ambitious), and Liz even managed to score with a nice header off a cross from our passing machine, Savas. With only two substitutions left (since we’d already lost quite a few players to injury), we secured the victory.

After the game, Coach RB treated everyone to a drink in the cafeteria, and several players threw themselves wholeheartedly into the post-game get-together.

So far, we've moved up one spot in the final standings every year. Top 5 next year?!
