Egmond Plastic has become the leading specialist in vapor deposition technology (vacuum metallization) for high-quality plastic products in the aviation sector. Thanks to our in-depth process knowledge and state-of-the-art production facilities, we deliver durable, precise, and lightweight aluminum coatings that meet the aviation industry’s stringent requirements.
Vapor deposition, also known as vacuum metallization, is an advanced process that takes place under high vacuum. Plastic parts are first carefully placed in special holders or cages, along with a source of aluminum. This cage is then placed into the vacuum chamber. Once the required high vacuum is achieved, the aluminum is melted and vaporized by heating. The aluminum vapor spreads like a cloud throughout the chamber and deposits evenly on the cooler plastic surface. This creates a thin, uniform aluminum film that provides optimal reflection, conductivity, or protection, depending on the application.

For applications such as reflectors and mirrors, the plastic product is first coated with a high-quality varnish layer. This base coat ensures better adhesion of the aluminum coating, a smoother surface, and maximum gloss and reflectivity. After vapor deposition, the aluminum layer can be protected with a sealing varnish layer. This increases the service life, scratch resistance, and durability of the final product.
The vapor deposition of plastic products is fully integrated into our one-stop-shop production process. This means we handle the entire process: from injection molding and post-processing to metallization and final inspection. As a result, we guarantee consistent quality, short lead times, and efficient production for customers in the aerospace and high-tech industries.
